It’s 5:21 PM on a Thursday afternoon in Brooklyn College, and a high-energy concert starring Mordechai Shapiro and Zusha is winding down, finishing with a blend of the artist’s hit songs.
Yet unlike most shows, when the drum sticks hit for one last punch signalling the end of the show, the crowd just wouldn’t let up. They wanted just a bit more.
This show had provided an energy rarely experienced at Jewish concerts, especially out of Israel. The entire crowd, young and old were on their feet for nearly the full 2 and a half hours, jumping and singing along as the artists performed some of their biggest hits, and took the stage together for dazzling collaborations.
One song that particularly electrified the audience came around the half-way mark of the show. “Don’t Leave Me On My Own”, saw Mordechai Shapiro joining Zusha on stage for their mega hit, and the crowd just couldn’t get enough.
So here they were at 5:21 PM, demanding one more round of the song that seemed like it might just take the roof off of the iconic Whitman Hall at Brooklyn College. And so, the Blue Melody Band, this time with guest star Yaakov Rosenblum on stage with the headliners, broke back into the hit song, with the audience singing along at the top of their lungs, a beautiful ending to a show unlike any other.
